Global warming is a reality, and carbon offsets are a key part of the plans to reverse it.  Many countries have established "cap and trade" programs that allow clean green businesses to sell carbon credits to dirtier businesses so that they can meet pollution requirements.  The Obama administration has proposed a similar plan for the U.S.
